How to become a Full Member of KUSS?
A Full Member of KUSS is a person who has signed an application for membership with the President and has been approved by the President. The application can be made at the Faculty Student Office or at the KUSS Central Office. It is advisable to contact in advance. You can find the contact details on the website kuss.lt, and you can also write to us on our social networks Facebook, Instagram (@mes.kuss).

What is the FSA?
FSA – the Faculty Student Association, which is based in each faculty. It deals with the problems of the students of a particular faculty, provides relevant information, organises faculty events, and stops for a cup of tea during breaks… Contacts
LSIC
What is a LSIC?
The Lithuanian Student Certificate (LSiC) is the only document that proves your student status.
What are the benefits of having an LSIC?
The LSIC entitles you to national public transport concessions and a range of student-only discounts throughout Lithuania.

How do I order an LSIC?
Register at www.lsp.lt and upload your documentary and ID photo. Once the higher education institution has uploaded all the necessary student data into the system, the certificate can be ordered.
What if I have lost my LSIC?
If you lose your LSIC and want to order a new one, follow these steps:
- The old LSIC is noted as lost in the LSIC profile. If you don’t see this option in your profile, please contact the student government of your higher education institution or email pagalba@lsp.lt;
- A new certificate is ordered in the LSIC system.
If you have lost your LSIC and do not wish to order a new certificate, follow these steps:
- In the LSIC profile, it is noted that the old LSIC has been lost. If you do not see this option in your profile, please contact the student government of your higher education institution or email pagalba@lsp.lt;
- Fill in the application form for cancellation of a lost LSPIC available at www.lsp.lt;
- Pay a fine of EUR 100.
What if I graduate/stop my studies?
If your studies have ended/terminated and the LSIC expires after more than 3 weeks, you MUST return it to the University Students’ Union or the Lithuanian Students’ Union.

ELECTIVE SUBJECTS IN GENERAL EDUCATION
How many students must there be to form a group?
The minimum group size for Group A subjects (foreign languages) is 10 students, and for Group B subjects (general university competences) 30 students.
Can I register for courses I have already taken?
No, you can no longer register for courses you have already taken.
How do I choose the right foreign language level?
Students can choose to study foreign languages at different levels by self-assessing their level of language proficiency according to the Classification of Language Proficiency Levels. The criteria for choosing foreign languages have been simplified:
A1 – for students who have not studied the foreign language at all;
B1 – for students with some knowledge of the foreign language;
C1 – for students who have studied the language as a second foreign language in secondary school and have not studied it in their first year at the University;
Higher level, professional language or specialised subjects may be taken by students who have studied the foreign language in the first year at the University.
What happens if a group doesn't form for my chosen subject?
If fewer than the minimum number of students register for the chosen course, the course will have to be re-selected at the time of re-registration.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
Who is eligible to sit the exams?
Students who have completed the tasks stipulated in the study programme, who have received positive (5 or more) mid-term grades in the Academic Information System and who have no outstanding financial obligations to the University are entitled to participate in the examination session. Lecturers shall examine only those students who are entitled to attend the session and take the examination in the subject of study.
Are the assessments taken during the exam session?
No, assessments in full-time studies are taken during the last class or at a time agreed with the lecturer.
Can I take exams earlier than the exam session?
Yes, full-time students may be allowed to take the exams early if they have a valid reason and the dean of the faculty or the director of the institute gives permission. The application form can be found here
What happens if a student fails to maintain academic integrity?
Students who do not comply with the norms of academic ethics (using unauthorised sources of information, taking notes from or telling other students, etc.) will be withdrawn from the examination and the marking sheet will show a mark of “Fail” and a final mark of “Pass” and “Fail”. Such students shall be entitled to take the examination (credit) in the subject during the resit session on payment of a fixed fee.
When is the course repeated in the next semester?
The course is repeated in the following semester:
when the student has an academic debt and the course assignments cannot be completed independently, the course is settled at the end of the next semester in which the course is taught;
when the student fails to clear the academic debt within a specified period.
Can a student with no more than 3 academic debts continue their studies?
Students with no more than three academic debts may, with the agreement of the Dean of the Faculty/Director of the Institute, continue their studies in a higher semester at a fee-paying place of study, paying the full tuition fee. Students may take advantage of this option twice during the entire period of study.
When can examinations be postponed?
The taking of examinations (credits) may be postponed for the student:
in case of illness and after informing the dean’s office/institute administrator. If the sick student has taken the examination and received an unsatisfactory grade, the session is not extended;
in case of temporary departure for studies in other higher education institutions in another country or abroad, for student athletes (by order of the Rector).
How many failed exams can I retake?
You can retake up to three failed examinations (assessments). Examinations and assessments shall be retaken once.
Will retaking my exams make my wallet drain faster?
There is no fee for retakes during the resit session, except for:
Students who, without justifiable reasons, fail to complete the course assignments on time during the semester;
Students who fail to comply with the standards of academic ethics and are excluded from the examination;
Students who fail to appear for an examination (credit) without a justifiable reason.
What happens if I don't turn up for an exam?
If a student fails to appear for an examination/recording, the lecturer shall enter “No-show” in the AIS record. If the student does not confirm by the end of the session that the absence was due to a valid reason, the student shall be marked as ‘Fail’ and the academic debt shall be credited. Such a student shall be entitled to retake the examination/assessment during the retake session, subject to the payment of a fixed fee in advance. If the student confirms that he/she has failed to appear for the examination/examination for a valid reason, the Dean’s Office staff/Institute administrators shall enter “Postponed” in the register.
What happens if I don't complete my coursework during the semester?
Students who fail to complete their course assignments on time during the semester without justifiable reasons shall be given a grade of “Fail” in the Academic Information System (AIS), and a final grade of “Pass” and “Fail”. Such students may take the examination in the subject of study after completing the semester assignments in accordance with the procedure laid down by the department/centre/institute supervising the subject of study and paying the prescribed fee.

What documents do I need to provide when I collect my publications?
Students, faculty and staff of the University are served with one of the following documents in force:
Lithuanian Student Certificate;
A personal identity card;
Library user card.
Others (not members of the University community) are only served with a Library User Card.

Do I need to order the publications I want in advance?
No, this is not necessary, but to make sure the library has the titles you want, we recommend that you order them in advance via the Virtual Library: https://vb.ku.lt/
REMOVAL/EXCLUSION OF STUDENTS
When is a student expelled from the University?
The Rector, on the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty/Director of the Institute, may expel a student from the University:
for violation of academic ethics (correspondence during reporting, plagiarism of coursework or other written work, final theses (projects), etc.);
for violating the academic rights of other students (violence, harassment, failure to return books to the library on time, etc.);
damage to University property and funds;
violation of the University’s internal rules;
non-compliance with the study agreement with the University;
failure to comply with the laws of the Republic of Lithuania.
When is a student removed from the lists?
The Rector, on the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty/Director of the Institute, may remove a student from the University’s student lists:
who has not confirmed his/her participation in studies in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Regulations on Studies (who has an academic debt and who has not submitted a request to the Dean for permission to continue his/her studies);
for non-attendance (not being entitled to attend a session; failing more than three examinations and/or assessments; failing to retake an examination or assessment during the session; failing to retake an examination or assessment after repeating a course of study; failing to pass the final qualifying examinations; failing to defend a final thesis/project; or failing to complete other tasks as specified in the programme of studies within the time limit).
ACADEMIC LEAVE
When can I take academic leave?
Academic leave may be taken for:
Sickness, on the recommendation of a doctor or medical advisory board;
pregnancy and childbirth;
childcare;
personal reasons, but not more than once during the study period.

How long is academic leave?
Academic leave lasts for one year and must end at the beginning of the autumn or spring semesters, regardless of when it was granted.
Doesn't a student lose his/her student status when he/she goes on academic leave?
No, a student does not lose his/her student status and the right to continue his/her studies at a state-funded place of study after the sabbatical leave if he/she was studying at the place of study before the sabbatical leave.

FINANCE/SCHOLARSHIPS
What are the types and amounts of state-supported loans?
1. Tuition fee loan. The amount of the loan cannot exceed the student’s tuition fee or part of the tuition fee for the current year of study in any one year. The loan shall be paid into the higher education institution’s account;
2. Loan for living expenses. This loan (up to EUR 3 920 per year) is disbursed in equal instalments each month until 1 July (or until the end of studies for final year students) into the borrower’s personal account;
3. A loan for part-time studies under international (inter-agency) agreements. This loan (up to EUR 2940 per year) is disbursed to the borrower’s personal account in one lump sum. Students going on exchange programmes before the application process has started should make sure that they have all the necessary data abroad and that they have a secure login to the Fund’s information system (e-banking, e-signature, ID card certificates).

Who can get a state-backed loan?
Students in short-term, undergraduate, postgraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, resident and professional studies, i.e. those with student status, are eligible for loans from research and study institutions. Free listener status does not entitle you to a loan.

Who will inform me if I am awarded a scholarship?
In the case of a scholarship, the KU Administration will contact the student.
What are the scholarships and who can get them?
- The social grant (6.5 BSI (€318.50)) is available to students who meet at least one of the following criteria:
they are from a needy family or living alone, entitled to or receiving a social allowance under the Law on Monetary Social Support for Needy Residents of the Republic of Lithuania;
have a level of incapacity for work of 45 % or less, or a severe or moderate level of disability, as determined by the legislation;
are at least 25 years old and have been placed under guardianship (custody) before reaching the age of majority in accordance with the procedure laid down by law, or their parents (the only parent they had) are deceased.The social grant is available to students who are entitled to a state-funded place or to reimbursement of tuition fees in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Law on Science and Studies of the Republic of Lithuania and have no more than 1 academic debt. Application deadlines and conditions are published at the beginning of each semester.The amount of the one-off scholarship awarded by the Rector shall not exceed 5 BSI (EUR 245), and the amount of the scholarship awarded by the Dean shall not exceed 3 BSI (EUR 147). One lump sum scholarship may be awarded per semester (by the Rector or the Dean).
The incentive grant is awarded for the results of studies and may be 1 BSI (49 Eur/month), 2 BSI (98 Eur/month), 3 BSI (147 Eur/month).
The Senate Scholarship (EUR 168/month) is awarded to students who have four or more semesters of excellent or very good academic performance and who participate in the University’s scientific, artistic and social activities.
How long can I pay my tuition fees?
Tuition fees are payable during the first three weeks of each semester. Tuition fees can be paid in instalments – 50% in the first three weeks of each semester, the remainder:
for the autumn semester – by 5 November.
for the spring semester – by 5 April.

What are the reasons for tuition fee reductions?
Reasons why tuition fees may be reduced and part of the tuition fees may be paid from Klaipėda University funds:
Academic achievements only very good and excellent (8 and above) (this reason can be given by students in semesters 3 and above);
being an orphan;
being from a socially disadvantaged family;
unexpected deterioration in the financial situation of the family/student;
representing Klaipėda University sports club;
participation in Klaipėda University art groups;
other reasons.

How do I become an ERASMUS+ student?
Those wishing to take part in the competition should submit the following documents to the Office of Studies (Herkaus Mantas g. 84, Senate Building, Room 305):
Erasmus+ study application form;
Academic average for the entire study period (approved by the Dean’s Office);
Recommendation from the Head of Department, agreed with the Dean;
A motivation letter (addressed to the selection committee, in Lithuanian);
Pass a foreign language test. The foreign language tests are compulsory for all Erasmus+ applicants (except for students of philological sciences who intend to study the language of their specialisation).

DORMS
Where can I find the KU dormitories?
The dormitory at 12 Universiteto al., located on the University campus, is for first, second and third cycle students, Erasmus+ participants and visiting lecturers. Most of the rooms are double rooms, single rooms are only for 3rd cycle students, and there are also rooms for students with reduced mobility. Shared showers shared by two or four people, shared kitchens, Wifi.
43 Statybininkų Ave. dormitory in the southern part of Klaipėda – for 1st and 2nd cycle students, session students, Erasmus+ participants. Double and triple rooms are shared with WCs and shared showers and kitchens for 8 rooms. Free Wifi is available.

What is a BSS and how can it help?
The Dormitory Student Council (DSC) is made up of the dormitory president, the seniors and representatives of the KUSS. The main duty of the Student Council is to maintain order in the dormitories and to ensure compliance with the Rules. Each council member is responsible for the policing of his/her own floor, so if there are any problems in the dormitory, the first thing to do is to inform the seniors.
What do I need to do to stay in one of the dormitories?
If you wish to stay in one of the two dormitories, you must submit a completed application form with a declaration of residence to bendrabutis@ku.lt. Orphans must provide the relevant documents (copy of birth certificate, copy of death certificate, court order on the restriction of parental authority, statement of family composition).
